15 minutes...

I have 15 minutes till clinic...
I REALLY don't want to go to clinic tonight!
Usually I enjoy meeting a new patient and talking to them/getting to know them...but today I just don't know if I can fake the happy dental hygienist smile!
In our handbook every semester it says to come into clinic looking refreshed...tips for a refreshed look straight from my Dental Hygiene Clinic Manual are as follows:
- Splash your eyes with water to look awake and refreshed
- Wear makeup
- Have clean and neatly pulled back hair

I always get a good kick out of these "tips" But I'm going to try them all today because I have been sick for over a week and I neglected the label on the cough syrup I took this morning that said to take at night only as it causes drowsiness and dizziness....they weren't kidding! Every time I stand up the room is spinning around me!

Well I'm off to clinic, I hope my patient shows up, and I really hope 4 hours flies by!!!

M.I.A

I have been Missing In Action for a few solid months now!! So I am going to do the speediest recap of the most recent MAJOR events in my life this past semester!!

So to start off the semester I had to buy a car...and I am clueless when it comes to cars!! So our bishop came with us to help! So we drove to houston on a friday after school, slept in a hotel that night woke up early on saturday spent over 10 hours driving around houston in search of a dumb car and finally settled on this one! It's pretty cute and it has lots of room for me to bring everything back home!!

We honestly didn't do alot of really FUN things this past semester because school was very intense especially CLINIC!! I could really go off on this subject but I wont, because I just get all panicked and anxious! But as usual I attended lots of school activities because Kaitlin is the princess of our school and has to host all of the student life activities. She's very well spoken and funny so it's always a good laugh to watch her! This picture is of Kaitlin hosting the kareoke (sp?) night!! It was a really funny night...I was too busy laughing to take any pictures of the performances!

These two sweethearts are from our ward in Texas, and were moving back to San Antonio so I offered to have them come play at our house a few times while their mom tried to pack and clean!! They are soo sweet and couldn't be cuter!!

Eva, Me (post 8 hour day of clinic) and Clark

When I didn't have clinic, school, or church callings to attend to I spent the majority of my time at the pool!! Nothings beats a hot texas day floating in the pool for hours, It is the ultimate therapy! I can seriously just feel all my stress and worries float away when I'm there...but unfortunately I have zero pictures of us at the pool:( I'll try to capture a few this semester!

So that about sums up the first two months of the summer semester...Now because I am recapping MAJOR events I will suck it up and go back and dig up my buried memories of the last 2 months of the semester:( I could go on for a while of all the different sicknesses I went through, but in short my immune system basically quit on me and just allowed any type of sickly bacteria to inhabit my body and cause me to be sick for way too long. Coincidentally while I was in the throws of pneumonia and a flu Hurricane Alex hit and we were evacuated to San Antonio. I think my roomates enjoyed the break from school for the week but all I remember is a lot of crying and wishing I was home:( Unfortunately being sick really was a major event this past semester as it took up most of my last few months and also really affected my marks and my clinic grade!! Thankfully its all over!!!
The sky was very dark and scary on our way home from our San Antonio after the Hurricane scare!!

My friend Sarah from North Texas, is having a baby boy ANY DAY now! So before we left for summer break all the hygiene girls had a baby shower for her! So Kaitlin and I made a diaper cake...it was pretty cute!!

Preggo Sarah and Melissa!! Sarah is having a boy and they have already named him Jaxon! Good pick!

Jessica after giving blood!! Looking pretty happy! Blood it's in you to give:)

Kaitlin's donating experience was significantly more dramatic than anything I've ever seen!! But she made it through and now it's just a good story!! They wouldn't let me give blood because I was under the weight limit:( Being sick is the fastest way to lose 15 pounds! Scary!!!

Our last saturday in Texas was spent at the church the a Primary Activity!! I am my ward's primary music leader! It has been a challenge but soo fun!! I love the kids so much already and I love the primary music! Can't wait to get back to it!

It was a pioneer themed primary activity...hence the bonnets!!

The weekend before we left Texas, we went out to the Island to a restaurant on the beach that does fireworks every friday night to music. It was such a pretty show and they play all this patriotic country texan music to the red white and blue fireworks!! Texans...gotta love em:)

All the girls at the end of the night:) I love these girls!! They make living so far from home just a little bit easier!!

Wow!! That was long! That's my update for my 3rd semester in Texas!! Time is flying!! And my summer break is almost over:( Which I'm sad about but I know I just need to get back down there and get this OVER WITH!! I will post again soon updating on my month of summer in Canada!! It was been great!!

They Did It!!!

I have to say Congrats to the TSTC Hygiene Class of 2010!!
They made it! I can't wait for my turn!!

This is only about half of their class. I will miss them!
We've all become a Texas family!!

Shannon, Lindsay and Riley ... I will especially miss them!!

Our Instructors <3
Mrs. Arjona, Mrs. Esquivel, Mrs. Trevino, Mrs. Euler, Shannon, Mrs. Flores, Mrs. Bennett and Dr. Bennett. (missing Mrs. Rico and Mrs. Renteria) I don't have a single complaint for these people! They are simply the BEST!!!

Our Texas Parents!

Lindsay, Shannon, Bishop Elkins, Lichi, and Riley

Shannon, Sis. Jackson, and Lindsay
Sis. Jackson is our institute teacher...we love her!! She is our Texas Grandma:)

We spent all of saturday from 8 in the morning to seconds before the event started, setting up and decorating! It turned out to be a great night with tons of laughing and a few tears. All the Canadians are excited to go home but it has been hard for them to say goodbye to the people that have become family for 2 years. I know I will have a hard time saying goodbye next year too...but its still a year away:)

Be a light.

"There's always going to be bad stuff out there. But here's the amazing thing - light trumps darkness, every time. You stick a candle into the dark, but you can't stick the dark into the light."

Lately...

Weeks are SERIOUSLY going by like days!!! It's crazy!!

Last week was spring break for TEXAS!! So we went on a roadtrip to San Antonio and Dallas (we even visited Oklahoma!)
So last friday right after my radiology class and lab we got in the car and drove to San Antonio and stayed with our favorite San Antonio friends John, Kevin and Joe!!! They are such nice guys and are always down for letting us crash at their house and entertain us while we're there!!

The crew minus Joe:(

Next we drove to Fort Worth to visit My Aunt and Uncle and their kids Margeret and Allen. They were so fun to hang out with and very entertaining even when they weren't trying to be!! My Aunt Colleen is a CLONE of my Grandma Davidson and although she was so kind to us, the few days that we stayed there it made me VERY grateful for my "go with the flow" mom!!

Allen, Margeret, Aunt Colleen, Me

The next day we went to Six Flags Over Texas which features one of the largest roller coasters in the United States and the biggest in Texas!! For many a roller coaster is not a big deal, but I am NOT a roller coaster person! So when we got out of the car the very first thing you saw was the massive rollercoaster and Kaitlin and I quickly let everyone know that we would not be riding it. It went something like this:
Shannon: You guys we HAVE to do that roller coaster, its the biggest in Texas!!
Kaitlin: There is no way I'm getting on that thing.
Maryn: Yeah, no way! You couldn't pay me to go on that!

... 2 hours later we're in the stupid line to get on that terrifying ride!!

Just some facts about The Titan. It takes you up 30 some stories and then drops you at a mere 85 miles per hour!!!!
Needless to say I actually enjoyed the ride minus the drop and I probably won't ever do it again:)

yes I went on that:)

The next day we were lucky enough to go to the Dallas temple in the morning with a local ward. It was a really cool experience:)

On wednesday we did some more Dallas tourist things and then headed an hour north of Dallas to Ashton's who is a girl we met from our hygiene class! She is such a sweet girl and we fell in love with her cute little puppy bentley within a matter of weeks when we first got to Harlingen! Her family was so fun to be with, I could sit and listen to them talk for hours!! They live in deep Texas country and they have the accents to prove it!!

Ashton's town sign. We started at the BOTTOM of Texas and made it allll the way to the TOP!!

Us with Ashton and her Parents Rustly and Gail and of course BENTLEY (minus her Brother Asa)

Their BEAUTIFUL home on hundreds on acres of land!!

On our last night we drove to OKLAHOMA to go to Doug's Peach Orchard! There were no peaches there:( BUT it is right on the red river so we had some catfish, and that was very good!!

On our way home from Dallas, we stopped in Austin to visit Shannon's cousin Joni who just had a baby! He was sooo cute and had soo much hair!! I miss babies!! They just melt me completely!!!

Who could resist that little face and all his hair!!

We also went to the San Antonio Temple, but I look like a wet rat in that picture so I will spare you all and not post it:) But it was again such a neat experience!! There are so many other things I could mention that we did, but this post is long enough already!! It was such a fun week and this past week has been very busy with school wrapping up!! I really cannot understand where all the time is going!! I am home again in 31 days and it's me and Russell's birthday in 6!!! Life is good:)

I love this picture with the old fashion gas pumps

Just a few perks:)

Somedays I really wonder what I've gotten myself into being a Dental Hygiene student!! After a day in clinic of vigorously scraping crap off peoples teeth you have to wonder why anyone likes this job! But after every patient I learn a little more and somedays I feel like Im actually starting to get it and other days I think I'm back at square one!! But tonight shannon was complaining of some sensitivity around her premolar area...so we whipped out some fluoride varnish and got to work on those sensitive spots! And let me tell you that stuff works like magic! So yes some perks of being a dental hygiene student is we are never short of free samples of Crest Pro Health tooth brushes, tooth paste, mouth rinse, floss, fluoride and polish!!

It would be alot easier to clean people's teeth if they could all lay on my lap like this! I wish!!

Update!

So we decided Pete looks awfully lonely in his tank so we brought a little girly friend home today.
Her name is LOLA. She is so tiny and cute! But Pete decided to be a BIG BULLY and attacked her when we put her in the tank with him. So now we have two fish in two separate bowls. I am not impressed with Pete right now.
Turns out Japanese Fighting Fish are the least compatible fish known to man!! They are almost always aggressive and they don't mix well with other fish especially their own kind. (Should have done my research before we bought another 2 dollar fish!!)

Moral of the story is don't be like these silly fish and be all pretty on the outside but secretly have a sucky personality!!
